| Walt Whitman’s Math Team
participates in the Montgomery County Math League in which they have placed
second for many years. Team members hold weekly practices during the season
at which they explore topics outside the general mathematics curriculum and
at which they practice problem-solving. County competitions occur on
Wednesdays during a season that lasts from late September until early March.
Members also compete on the University of Maryland High School Mathematics
Competition and the American Mathematics Competitions’ series of exams
designed to select the USA Math Olynpiad Team. (University of Maryland and
AMC are also open to all Whitman students who are interested in taking the
tests which are administered at Whitman). Math Team members whose
individual scores during the season distinguish them are invited to
participate in practices and a June competition for the American Regions
Math League (ARML)
A nice variety of summer programs and additional competitions are
available. To see a list of some of the best and their websites, go to the
page on Summer Programs.
